Austria Concert Tour
DAY 1 (U.S.A./Aloft)
Depart United States aboard your overnight transAtlantic flight
to Europe. The night will pass quickly, and you will soon be landing
in Vienna.
DAY 2 (Arrive VIENNA)
Welcome to Vienna After passing through necessary customs formalities,
you will be met by your Tour Director and transferred to your hotel,
with the remainder of the day at leisure to begin exploring on your
own. As capital of the small but prosperous and forwardlooking Austrian
Republic, its people and its ways have been changed but Vienna still
retains its imperial monuments. Vienna's charm consists of many
elements. This metropolis on the Danube has lovely green parks,
fine shops, hotels and restaurants. It also has some of the most
incredibly beautiful Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo buildings in
the world. Upon arrival you are free to start enjoying this city
of the waltz and one of the great musical capitals of the world.
Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
DAY 3 (VIENNA)
Breakfast at your hotel. On your sightseeing tour this morning
you will stop to view St. Stephen's Cathedral, an impressive Gothic
structure, consecrated in 1147, it has a 448 foot spire and contains
many art treasures. You will also see the Ringstrasse and Town Hall
and the elaborate Summer Palace of Schonbrunn. This 1441 room palace
in the suburbs of Vienna has little changed since the time of Maria
Theresa. The furnishings of the 40 rooms on view, the fountains,
parks, and formal terraces make up a picture of unsurpassed elegance.
This afternoon you will give a performance at Schonbrunn Palace
(subject to availability). Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
DAY 4 (VIENNA - VIENNA WOODS EXCURSION)
Breakfast at your hotel. This morning you will be touring through
charming wine growing villages. The winding route crosses small
rocky and wooded valleys along the banks of the River Modling and
then continue in the woods as far as Heiligenkreuz. Return to Vienna
during the mid afternoon with the balance of the day free. This
evening you will give your second performance. Dinner and overnight.
DAY 5 (VIENNA - MELK - SALZBURG)
Early breakfast at your hotel, then board your coach for the drive
to Salzburg via Melk. Upon arrival at Melk you will be given a sightseeing
tour of the Abbey and the possibility of performing in the Chapel
if there is no Mass or Organ Concert at the time. Following your
visit you will be served an optional lunch at the Stifts Restaurant
Melk. After lunch you will continue to Salzburg. Dinner and overnight
in Salzburg.
DAY 6 (SALZBURG)
Breakfast at your hotel. You are now in the city of Mozart. Above
the salt mines of Salzburg stand some of Austria's grandest treasures
this is a city of art, music, folklore and culture. This morning
you will visit Mozart's birthplace, then past the Cathedral and
the Glockenspiel and finally visit the baroque Castle of Hellbrunn,
once the country center for the PrinceBishops of Salzburg. Lunch
will be on your own. In mid afternoon you will be transferred to
Mirabell Gardens where a performance is scheduled. At the conclusion
of the performance you will be driven back to your hotel for dinner
and overnight.
DAY 7 (SALZBURG - INNSBRUCK - MUNICH)
Following breakfast at your hotel, you will board your motorcoach
for the drive to Munich with stops in Innsbruck and Garmisch. Innsbruck
is in the heart of the Tyrol and to one of the loveliest of Alpine
cities. In a valley hemmed in by peaks, Innsbruck is situated in
the western part of the country on the Inn River, and is famous
for its winter sports facilities. After an orientation tour of the
city, you will continue on to Munich via the winter resort town
of Garmisch. Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Munich.
DAY 8 (MUNICH)
Breakfast at your hotel. Munich froths with good German beer and
Bavarian friendliness. To capture that mood you'll start the day
with a morning sightseeing tour a drive to Koenigsplatz, a view
of the University, Odeons Square, and the Marienplatz with its neoGothic
City Hall, boasting the famed glockenspiel. You have the afternoon
free to enjoy Munich as you wish. Old trees, grassland, shady seats
beside winding paths. . .this is the Englischer Garten. The museums
are numerous, among them the Deutsche Museum, the Alte Pinakothek
and the Haus der Kunst. Or you may enjoy a visit to Nymphenburg
Castle, surrounded by the beautiful Botanical Gardens. For the shoppers,
you will find good buys in woodcrafts, clocks, sweaters, and naturally,
a wide selection of beautiful beer mugs! Dinner and overnight at
your hotel.
DAY 9 (MUNICH - USA)
Today you bid farewell to Munich as your motorcoach transfers you
to the airport for your return flight to the United States, taking
with you so many wonderful memories of Austria and Germany.
