Music Tour of Hungary, Austria, Germany, and Switzerland
Day 1 - USA – Budapest
Depart the U.S. to Budapest, the capital of Hungary.
Day 2 – Budapest
After arrival meet your tour escort. He/She will guide you to your
waiting motor coach. Drive to your hotel and check in. This afternoon
a local guide will take you for a good overview of the city's 2,000
year history. Remnants of a Roman settlement are still found on
an island in the Danube River. You will travel through the city's
sprawling quarters of Buda and Pest and your visit will concentrate
on the Old Town with the Citadel area with the castle, Fishermen's
Bastion and the 700 year old St. Matthew Church. The balance of
the day is free to explore Budapest on your own. Dinner at your
hotel. (D)
Day 3 – Budapest
This morning the first choir performance is scheduled during a
mass in Budapest. Early afternoon board a river boat to cruise over
the Danube and enjoy the sights of Budapest. Tonights dinner will
be served at one of the local restaurants while folklore dancers
and fiery gipsy musicians entertain you. (B,D) (D)
Day 4 – Budapest - Vienna
Depart Budapest and drive along the Autobahn west into Austria.
Your destination today is the capital of Austria, Vienna. Tonight
enjoy a concert of the Vienna Johann Strauss orchestra performing
the best known compositions of the “Waltz King.” (B)
Day 5- Vienna
Morning sightseeing tour of Vienna. Drive to the Ring Boulevard,
created 1857. Here you will find all the historic buildings like
the Museum of Natural History, the Austrian Parliament, the City
Hall, the National Theater and the Vienna Opera House. See the Imperial
Palace. Here at the Chapel, the Vienna Boys Choir sings mass on
Sunday mornings. The Spanish Riding School performs in one wing.
At the enter of the old quarter is St. Stephens Cathedral, built
in Gothic style from the 12th to the 16th century. Cross the Danube
River and pass UNO city, a modern office complex accommodating a
number of international organizations. For the afternoon your 2nd
performance is scheduled in front of Schoenbrunn Palace, the former
summer residence of the Habsburg Dynasty for better than 200 years.
Tonights dinner is reserved in an informal atmosphere in the Vienna
wine suburb of Grinzing. (B,D)
Day 6 - Vienna - Salzburg
A beautiful drive along the Danube River brings you to Melk. Melk
is a charming little wine village overlooked by the majestic monastery.
From here along the Autobahn to Salzburg, the birth town of Mozart.
A local guide will show you the highlights of this town on a walking
tour. See the Abbey of St. Peter, the Archbishop's residence, the
Cathedral, the Festival Playhouse and Mozart's birth house in busy
Getreidegasse. You may want to visit the castle premises on your
own (not included), giving you a beautiful view over the city (B)
Day 7 – Salzburg
The morning free to explore Salzburg on your own. For the afternoon
your 3rd performance is scheduled at Mirabell Gardens. (B)
Day 8 - Salzburg – Kitzbuhel
Departure through beautiful mountain scenery to the Austrian resort
of Kitzbuhel. Balance of the day on your own. (B)
Day 9- Kitzbuhel – Munich
Past Innsbruck back into Germany. First stop today is the Passion
Play village of Oberammergau. Enjoy the picturesque scenery of this
famous Bavarian village famous for its woodcarvings. A 90 minute
drive and you will reach Munich, the capital of Bavaria. Dinner
tonight is reserved at the world famous Hofbrauhaus. Enjoy dinner
while the Bavarian Brass band is entertaining you with typical Bavarian
songs. (B,D)
Day 10 - Munich
Morning city sightseeing of Munich. First stop is Nymphenburg Palace,
the former summer residence of the Royal Bavarian Family. Then go
onto the hypermodern Olympic Complex. Pass the BMW administration
building with its carburetor shaped museum. See all the other famous
landmarks of Munich like the Student District of Schwabing, Maximilianstrasse,
Koenigsplatz and the Marienplatz. Your tour will end with viewing
the "Glockenspiel." Balance of the day free to explore
the city on your own. Enjoy the arts by visiting the old Pinakothek,
one of the finest galleries in Europe with paintings from Raphael,
Rubens, Leonardo da Vinci and van Dyck. Or visit the Deutsche Museum
founded 1925 devoted to science and technical subjects. Stroll along
the pedestrian area and shop in one of the boutiques, or visit the
Viktualienmarkt, an open air food market. (B)
Day 11 - Munich – Lucerne
Through the “dairy land” of Germany to Lake Constance.
Weather permitting you can view the Alps of 3 countries, Germany,
Austria and Switzerland. Cross the border into Switzerland and drive
to Lucerne. (B)
Day 12 - Lucerne
Morning walking tour with a local guide. You will see the interesting
wall with ancient towers on a hill above the city. The medieval
covered wooden bridges across the Reuss River are unique. One of
them features over a hundred 17th C. paintings describing the history
of this city. Balance of day at leisure. You might want to take
a cable car up to Mt. Pilatus. Tonight enjoy your farewell dinner
and a original Swiss folklore show. (B,D)
Day 13 - Lucerne
Today it is time to say “Auf Wiedersehen” when you
board your motor coach for your transfer to Zurich airport for your
return flight to the U.S. (B)
