Day 1
Chicago - Munich
Depart Chicago O’Hare to Munich, Germany. Dinner will be served after takeoff and a breakfast before arriving.
Day 2
Munich
After arrival claim your luggage and proceed through customs. Luggage loading and transfer to your hotel in Munich. After check in walk to a typical Bavarian Restaurant in downtown Munich for your first dinner in Germany. (D)
Day 3
Munich
This morning enjoy a city sightseeing of Munich with a local guide. Your first stop will be Nymphenburg Palace, the former summer residence of the Royal Bavarian Family. Then go onto the Olympic Complex, site of the 1972 summer Olympics. Pass the BMW administration building with its carburetor shaped museum and see all the other famous landmarks of Munich like the Student District of Schwabing, Maximilianstrasse, Koenigsplatz and the Marienplatz. The balance of the day free. You might want to visit the old Pinakothek, one of the finest galleries in Europe with paintings from Raphael, Rubens, Leonardo da Vinci and van Dyck. Or visit the Deutsche Museum founded 1925 devoted to science and technical subjects. Stroll along the pedestrian area and shop in one of the boutiques, or visit the Viktualienmarkt, an open air food market. (B)
Day 4
Munich – Innsbruck
Your first stop today is the fairy tale castle of King Ludwig, Neuschwanstein. After your visit drive to Oberammergau. This Bavarian village has a long woodcarver tradition and is famous for its Passion Play every ten years. After some time on your own continue to Innsbruck in Austria. (B,D)
Day 5
Innsbruck
Whole day in Innsbruck, twice site of Olympic winter games. You might want to do some shopping, explore the old historic part or take the cable car up to the Hungerburg which gives you a beautiful view over the town. (B)
Day 6
Innsbruck – Salzburg
Depart Innsbruck and drive to Wattens, the headquarter of crystal maker Swarovski. Time to visit their gift shop (admission to the Crystal World is not included). Continue via Rattenberg, the oldest town in Tyrol via scenic roads to Salzburg. Your country inn style hotel is located just outside Salzburg. (B, D)
Day 7
Salzburg
This morning visit the saltmine in Hallein. Get dressed in miners clothes travel along galleries in a small train and cross an illuminated subterranean lake by craft. After your visit drive to the city center of Salzburg and meet your local guide for a walking tour. One of the highlights are Mirabell Gardens and Mozarts birth house in the Getreidegasse. (B, D)
Day 8
Salzburg - Erding
Check out of your hotel and drive into the Austrian Lake District (Salzkammergut). This area is well known for its scenery from the “Sound of Music”. Stop at the Moon Lake and St.Wolfgang. After your visit cross back into Germany again and drive to Erding, a typical Bavarian village and famous for its White Beer. (B, D)
Day 9
Erding – Munich Airport
After breakfast short transfer to the Munich airport where you board your return flight to the U.S. (B)
