Day 1 – August 17, 2010 U.S. - Germany
Board your flight to Germany. Shortly after takeoff dinner will be served. Enjoy the in-flight entertainment program and a breakfast before arrival.
Day 2 – August 18, 2010 Berlin
After arrival in Berlin you will be met by your tour director. Start your tour with a short introduction to Berlin. Pass the Charlottenburg Palace, the Olympic Stadium, where Jesse Owens raced to glory in 1936 and the Schoeneberger Rathaus, site of John F. Kennedy’s moving "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech. One of the highlights is your drive along the boulevard "Unter den Linden" with its famous Brandenburg Gate. After that your tour director will take you on a walk through the historic part of Berlin near the city hall. Tonight enjoy your welcome dinner. (D)
Day 3 – August 19, 2010 Berlin – Wittenberg - Erfurt
After breakfast departure to Wittenberg. Your walking tour includes the visit of the Schlosskirche (castle church) on which door Luther nailed his 95 theses on October 31, 1517 and the Church of St.Mary’s where Luther used to preach. Your tour will end with a visit of the Luther House. After lunch (on your own) continue to Erfurt. Already from a distance you will see the numerous steeples and bell towers rising above the roofs of the town which bear witness to the religious activity in Erfurt. (B,D)
Day 4 – August 20, 2010 Erfurt – Eisenach - Rothenburg
After a visit to the Augustine monastery where Luther entered in 1505 to become a monk, depart to Eisenach, the birthplace of J.S.Bach. Visit the houses Luther and Bach lived in and, of course, Wartburg castle. After some time on your own continue to the medieval town of Rothenburg. After dinner tonight enjoy a walking tour with the night watchmen through the illuminated romantic town. Walk over cobble stoned streets, through town gates, admire towers and the old city wall. Day 5 – August 21, 2010 Rothenburg – Oberammergau area
Morning time to do some shopping before you depart towards the Bavarian Alps. Stop at Ulm, the birthtown of Albert Einstein. Visit the Gothic Cathedral built 1377 and the Fishermen’s Quarter with picturesque half-timbered houses and small canals. After some time on your own continue your tour south. After a stop at the romantic Wies Church check into your overnight accommodations in the Oberammergau area. (B,D)
Day 6 – August 22, 2010 Passion Play Oberammergau
The morning is free to explore the village of Oberammergau. You might want to go shopping for wood carvings, which is one of the great traditions here, or visit the local museum. After lunch experience history first hand and attend the Passion Play, performed only every 10 years since 1634. (B,L,D)
Day 7 – August 23, 2010 Oberammergau –Neuschwanstein - Salzburg
Through a picture book scenery of high mountains, lakes and small villages we will drive to King Ludwig’s castle Neuschwanstein. Walt Disney used this “original” to model his Cinderella castle. After a visit of this “dreamlike” castle, drive through the wonder world of the Alps into Austria. After passing Innsbruck (twice site of Olympic Winter Games) and the Crystal World’s of Swarovski you will soon arrive at your country home style hotel south of Salzburg. (B,D)
Day 8 – August 24, 2010 Salzburg
This morning a local guide takes you on a walking tour of Salzburg, the City of Mozart. See the Abbey of St. Peter, the Archbishop's residence, the Cathedral, the Festival Playhouse and Mozart's birthhouse in busy Getreidegasse. After that, your coach will drive you through the Austrian Lake District. Visit some of the sights known from the movie "The Sound of Music." (B,D)
Day 9 – August 25, 2010 Salzburg – Munich
Depart Salzburg to the south. You will drive over one of the most beautiful scenic roads, the Grossglockner Road. After your driver tackles a series of hairpin bends you will be at the observation tower of the "Edelweiss Spitze" at an altitude of 8,455 ft. After plenty of photo opportunities continue your drive to Munich. Check into your hotel and enjoy the downtown area on a walking tour with your tour director. Tonight’s farewell dinner will be served at the famous Hofbrauhaus. (B,D)
Day 10 – August 26, 2010 Munich – U.S.
Today it is time to say “Auf Wiedersehen” when you board your motor coach to the airport for your return flight to the U.S. (B)
