Vienna Imperial Ball
New Year's Eve 2008!
Vienna, Austria
December 29, 2008 - January 02, 2009
The elegant beginning of the Grand Ball season, the Imperial Ball
takes place on December 31st in the Viennese Hofburg Palace (Imperial
Palace). Visitors come from all over the world to spend New Years'
Eve in the former winter residence of the Austrian Emperor.
In the entrance hall, Imperial Guards perform the historic changing
of the guards. Guests are greeted on the grand staircase by the
'Imperial Couple'. Ladies are presented a small gift as a remembrance
of the evening by footmen dressed in livery. Members of the ball
committee guide the visitors to the state apartments, splendidly
decorated with thousands of flowers. A gala banquet will be served
by waiters in silk livery.
Internationally known orchestras and bands invite you to dance
in the Festival Hall and other splendid halls. At midnight, the
ringing of the bell from St.Stephan's Cathedral can be heard, the
'Imperial Couple' wishes a Happy New Year and the Deutschmeister
Band marches through the halls playing music. The climax is the
fabulous show starting after midnight in the Festival Hall. Stars
from the State Opera and Volksopera sing and dance to melodies from
Viennese operettas.
